Video tutorial — coming soon
Follow the written steps and screenshots below while the video is being prepared.
Before you begin
Use a font that supports the book’s actual characters and permits embedding. Keep the Word document as your editable master. Font embedding in a Word document and font embedding in the final PDF are related checks, not interchangeable proof.
Prepare the Word source
- In desktop Word, open File → Options → Save and find the font-embedding setting. Options and labels can vary by version and platform.
- Enable Embed fonts in the file when available and permitted by the font licence. If another person will edit the source, avoid limiting the file to only the characters already used.
- Save the Word document, then use Word’s PDF export or Save As PDF option. Confirm the page size and page range before exporting.
Inspect the exported PDF
Open the PDF in Acrobat or Reader and find Document Properties → Fonts. Check for Embedded or Embedded Subset beside each font. A permitted subset contains the glyphs needed for the exported content.
If a font is not embedded, correct the export settings or choose a suitable font in the source and export again. An embedding-restricted font may need a licensed replacement.
Check more than the font list
Review Pashto/Dari letter joining, diacritics, punctuation and paragraph direction. Font embedding cannot repair an already incorrect layout. Inspect headings and footnotes as well as the main body.
If a reviewer requests an editable Word file, share the source separately; keep the public book upload limited to the file expected by that edition.
Check your result
- The source document remains editable and safely backed up.
- The exported PDF shows embedded fonts or permitted embedded subsets.
- Sample pages display correctly in more than one reader.
- No extra PDF copy was uploaded simply to work around an unresolved font problem.
